{Christine & Benton} A winter engagement near Barry’s Bay

We first met Christine at Arnprior’s first wedding show a few months ago. We immediately seemed to get along very well and after the 3 of us chatted for over half an hour, she went home to discuss things with Benton. A few days later we received a very nice e-mail requesting to meet up. Christine and Benton made the drive to Almonte from Barry’s Bay a few days later and we set a date to capture their engagement photos. We had a great time despite the foot of snow that was on the ground at the park near Combermere (just outside of Barry’s Bay). As we were wrapping up the session, Benton mentioned that as a child, he had helped his grandfather build a monument a few kilometers away to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw uprising in Poland. It is designed to commemorate a church that was destroyed during the Nazi invasion. We thought it would be a fitting tribute to their culture, family, and heritage, and the perfect way to end their engagement session.

{Sara & Marc} Vintage Christmas Wedding

This post is a testament to the fact that social media works…really, really works. Earlier this year, I befriended Sara on Twitter; I had been following a conversation regarding her upcoming vintage styled wedding, and I suggested that she have a look at one my favorite sites, Ruffled Blog. We hit it off, and eventually we got together to talk about their wedding photography. Brian and I were thrilled! Sara has a cool retro vibe going on, and regularly blogs about her ventures into vintage fashion–she’s cute, bubbly, and charismatic. Marc, at first, seemed to be the total opposite. He seemed quiet, but gave us a pleasant surprise when he very eloquently told us about many of the details of their day…he was undoubtedly head over heels in love with Sara and an absolute equal in the planning process. They told us of their dream winter wedding, designed around Christmas, which is a very special time for Sara, just as it was for her beloved mother.

{Stephanie & Jordan} Engagement at Upper Canada Village’s Alight at Night festival

A few months ago Ivanette and I met with Stephanie and Jordan about their wedding this coming February. Stephanie expressed her love of Christmas lights and came up with the great idea of travelling down to Upper Canada Village for their Alight at Night festival. Of course we agreed to such a unique (and challenging) setting for their engagement photos. We had a blast photographing their engagement session despite getting a little cold.

{Cliff Mautner’s Workshop} Philadelphia

In October I attended Cliff Mautner’s Lighting and Skill Set boot camp. Unlike most workshops, which concentrate on posing, flash photography, and the business of photography, Cliff concentrated on natural light, mainly full sun at high noon. His techniques baffled me, so I just had to go! I would highly recommend Cliff’s workshop for any expert photographer.

{Pamela & Alex} Intimate wedding at the Courtyard Restaurant Ottawa

Last Saturday, we photographed the wedding of Pamela and Alex, who you may remember from their engagement session. Theirs was a lovely intimate ceremony at St. Theresa’s, a beautiful church hidden away from the downtown core. I have yet to come upon a groom more excited than Alex, and their wedding party was simply hilarious! We had great weather, great light, and even a great horse named Diamond…

{Debra & Rob} Calabogie Peaks Fall Wedding

We were really looking forward to photographing Debra and Rob’s wedding at Calabogie Peaks Resort on October 9th–you may remember their awesome sport bike engagement session, which only made us even more excited about their wedding! This day was ALL about family–Debra’s wonderful father, who gave her away for their first look session and during the ceremony, Rob’s sons Christopher and Alex (who made everyone cry during his speech and the first dance), and their wonderful brothers and sisters. The weather was spectacular that day, and the staff at the resort were so amazing–it totally made our day that we were able to take a trip up the mountain on the ski lift!

{Frances & Shaun} Vintage wedding at Port Hope Golf and Country Club

When Frances and Shaun began telling us about their wedding, we had never been to Port Hope.  To get ourselves prepared, we did some research on Penryn Mansion, built in 1859, which sits on the picturesque Port Hope Golf and Country Club, and were instantly excited!  We were even more pleased when we arrived in Port Hope, as everything is so much more beautiful than we had imagined.
