{Janis & John} A gorgeous Strathmere Garden Wedding

Janis & John had a gorgeous day for their wedding last Saturday at Strathmere. The sun even came out for brief moments! The weather was great, with lots of great family and friends in attendance. Janis and John did a great job of putting together their elegant and personalized wedding. Of course, everything went as smooth as possible, thanks to Erika, one of Strathmere's coordinators. {Christine & Benton} Wedding in Barry’s Bay, Ontario

Christine and Benton couldn't have asked for a better day for their wedding this past Saturday in Barry's Bay. It was a gorgeous day, with full sun, yet it wasn't too hot; Ivanette and I took the back roads on our way out and enjoyed the drive! Christine & Benton's wedding has to be one of the most meaningful and unique weddings so far. Not because of any specific detail, expensive shoes, or luxury wedding venue, but because of the love they have for each other, and how important the photography was for them. We had met Christine at the Arnprior wedding show, and then got to spend a gorgeous winter afternoon capturing their engagement session. What makes the photography so important, is that at the moment, Benton has lost most of his sight, but the good news is that in years to come, new research may actually be able to restore it. Even though he may not have been able to see how beautiful his bride was, it was evident that he knew how beautiful she was. Ivanette and I look forward to the day where Benton gets to enjoy these photos as much as we did in taking them. Read more

{Fanny & Steve} Remic Rapids Engagement

Fanny and Steve were absolutely amazing to work with this past Sunday! We met downtown to photograph their engagement session by the water. With the threat of rain and thunder storms, we moved quickly, which was made easy by Fanny & Steve's passion and energy for each other! Ivanette and I can't wait for their wedding! Read more

{Tracy & Phill} A wedding of family and friends, Almonte, Ontario

When Ivanette and I moved to Almonte 4 years ago, one of the first people we were introduced to was Phil. Since then, we have gotten to know Phill, and he's always been there when we've needed a hand. We've learned that he is truly one of the kindest, gentlest, most generous men around, and he is a wonderfully dedicated father to boot. We were very happy when Tracy came to hold such a special place in Phill's life, and one night in mid December when we were in the middle of renovating our new studio, Phil called us up, and was in need of some guidance in setting up his proposal to Tracy. Needless to say, we were both very excited and happy to help. Read more

{Stephanie & Freddie} An Ottawa University Engagement

Ivanette and I photographed Stephanie & Freddie's engagement session downtown this past Sunday, and what a fitting couple to book on Mother's day! Stephanie and Freddie met 9 years ago at the University of Ottawa, and have since graduated, started great careers, and have had 3 very cool children (who came with them to interview us as their wedding photographers). When chatting, they told us all about how they first met at the University frosh week. Thus, Tabaret Hall (along with the rest of the campus) was the only choice to celebrate their engagement! {Erin & Chris} A country engagement

When we sit down with couples, we like to get to know who they are and what they enjoy. We like to convey the couple's personality, and in this case, their trust in each other! We are looking forward to their wedding this summer. Read more

{Janis & John} True Canadian Engagement

One day while working away at getting images, prints, and albums put together and ready for Christmas, I get a phone call. 50 minutes later, I finish having an amazing conversation with Janis about her intimate wedding coming up this May, and the history behind her and John. A few weeks later they were the first couple we met at our new studio. Ivanette and I had a great conversation with the both of them and chatted for nearly two hours! Read more

{Phill & Tracy} A wintery country engagement

Ivanette and I have known Phill almost since the time we moved to Almonte 4 years ago. Phil is the give you his shirt off his back kind of guy who is always around when you need a hand. We were happy for him when we heard about Tracy, and even happier when he called Ivanette one evening asking for a little advice on when the best time to propose would be! We had the opportunity to take their engagement photos at Tracy's family farm, as it combines her love of the family land, and Phill's love of 4 wheelers and tractors. We were lucky enough to schedule their session the morning after last week's snow storm, giving Phil and Tracy a bit of powder to play around in with the 4 wheeler. Read more

{Sandra & Mark} A destination wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica

It was a little less than a year ago when we connected with Sandra in Alberta about her upcoming destination wedding in Jamaica. Early on Sandra and Mark realized that if they wanted quality photography for their wedding, it was best to bring a photographer (or two) along with them. Ivanette and I have been looking forward to this great opportunity ever since then. Sandra and Mark are a wonderful couple and we thoroughly enjoyed spending a week with both of their amazing families. Read more

{Katrina & Chris} A winter wedding at Stanley’s Maple Lane Farm

Katrina & Chris have been planning their gorgeous outdoor winter wedding for quite some time now, and for one of the few times, I booked them without even meeting them. They have been living in Alberta and have had to do all of the planning from there. A big thanks to Heather for recommending us to Katrina after we photographed her wedding this past July. Another rarity was that Ivanette, my wife was unable to attend their weekday wedding to assist me. Thanks to Liz Bradley for being my second photographer /and assistant. Read more

{Christine & Benton} A winter engagement near Barry’s Bay

We first met Christine at Arnprior's first wedding show a few months ago. We immediately seemed to get along very well and after the 3 of us chatted for over half an hour, she went home to discuss things with Benton. A few days later we received a very nice e-mail requesting to meet up. Christine and Benton made the drive to Almonte from Barry's Bay a few days later and we set a date to capture their engagement photos. We had a great time despite the foot of snow that was on the ground at the park near Combermere (just outside of Barry's Bay). As we were wrapping up the session, Benton mentioned that as a child, he had helped his grandfather build a monument a few kilometers away to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw uprising in Poland. It is designed to commemorate a church that was destroyed during the Nazi invasion. We thought it would be a fitting tribute to their culture, family, and heritage, and the perfect way to end their engagement session. Read more

{Sara & Marc} Vintage Christmas Wedding

This post is a testament to the fact that social media works...really, really works. Earlier this year, I befriended Sara on Twitter; I had been following a conversation regarding her upcoming vintage styled wedding, and I suggested that she have a look at one my favorite sites, Ruffled Blog. We hit it off, and eventually we got together to talk about their wedding photography. Brian and I were thrilled! Sara has a cool retro vibe going on, and regularly blogs about her ventures into vintage fashion--she's cute, bubbly, and charismatic. Marc, at first, seemed to be the total opposite. He seemed quiet, but gave us a pleasant surprise when he very eloquently told us about many of the details of their day...he was undoubtedly head over heels in love with Sara and an absolute equal in the planning process. They told us of their dream winter wedding, designed around Christmas, which is a very special time for Sara, just as it was for her beloved mother. Read more
