{Melissa & Garth} An “end of the world” wedding at Montebello!

As I'm sure you all know, Dec 21st 2012 was supposed to be the end of the world as some people interpreted the Mayan Calendar. Well, it was quite a fitting day to celebrate Melissa & Garth's love for each other. Twenty three years ago, the two were high school sweethearts, so on the end of the world, or as it was more commonly referred to at their wedding, the beginning of a new age, Melissa & Garth were married in a wonderful ceremony at Chateau Montebello. Melissa filled the wedding full of unique touches, such as a circular aisle, so that they could walk past each and every guest, the custom hand made glass ornaments that formed a centrepiece, and then became favours for the guests. There was no seating plan, because as Melissa and Garth stated, "We are all family, so there's no seating plan". Guests were able to sit where they wished, mingle with who they wanted, and meet new friends at their leisure. The atmosphere was relaxed, well, until the dancing started! Read more

{Christine & Evan} A wedding by the water in Carleton Place

Ivanette and I have known Christine & Evan for a few years now through family, and were thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph their wedding! With a big thanks to Sara at Prior Engagements for making the Canoe Club look the best it's ever looked! It threatened to rain on their wedding day, but luckily the clouds cleared during their ceremony and we were able to make some gorgeous images outside! Read more

{Rachel & Chris} A rainy day wedding

Some of our past clients might recognize Rachel, as she was my assistant last year while Ivanette was home with baby Tavis! Shortly after she started working with us, Chris proposed, so it was an honour when she asked us to photograph her wedding. The week leading up to the wedding, Rachel had her eye on the forecast, and I was hoping it would change. Well, the forecast did change, only the accumulation kept getting higher and higher. Well, it was a torrential downpour for most of the day! We completed their first look inside one of the barns at Stonefields, Ivanette was drenched from head to toe getting the barn set up and ready for the first look, and I can't thank her enough for all she did! Rachel made the last minute decision to have her wedding outside in the drizzle, and with the help of Allan the ceremony was picture perfect! I also wanted to thank Steve and Stephanie of Stonefields who stepped in and made Rachel & Chris' wedding amazing after their original venue double booked their date. Read more

{Alanna & Martin} SURPRISE! It’s your wedding day!

Back in November I received an e-mail from a guy by the name of Martin. He's planning a wedding for June 2012, it's going to be a backyard wedding, oh, and the bride doesn't know! Turns out Alanna is one busy gal, and didn't have much time to plan their wedding, so Martin decided to tell her that they'd have a small affair in September. Read more

{Christine & Evan} A sexy sunset engagement session

Ivanette and I have known Christine and Evan for a couple years now. Evan used to work with my younger brother, and over the years we've gotten to know Christine and Evan. We were excited for them when Evan finally proposed, and even more excited to be photographing their wedding next year in Carleton Place. We spent a Sunday afternoon at Evan's cottage capturing their engagement session surrounded by the fall leaves. Evan was thrilled when I suggested we incorporate his prized Mustang into their session!   Read more

{Kelly & Kevin} A country wedding at the Mill of Kintail and Almonte Agricultural Hall

It truly was an honor to photograph Kelly and Kevin's wedding this September. Some may recognize Kelly from their experiences at Sinders Bridal in Carleton Place, which is where Kelly first heard of us, and throughout the years, decided that we were going to be her wedding photographer. Kelly and Kevin had a lovely intimate ceremony at the Mill of Kintail, followed by a simple yet fun reception at the Almonte Agricultural Hall. Read more

{Rachel & Eric} An intimate “elopement”

Photos by Brian Blog post by Ivanette I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Rachel when I started working at a new job in January, and getting to know her has been one of the highlights of my time there so far. Over time, we got to talking about our lives outside the office, and she learned that Brian is a photographer, and I learned that she was set to marry the love of her life, Eric, this fall. The rest, they say, is history! When you see Rachel and Eric together, it's truly captivating...they laugh together constantly, and when they look at one another, are almost consumed by the other. The energy they have together is wonderous and infectious, and you really can't help but be happy in their presence. Read more

{Su & Leo} Intimate wedding at Code’s Mill in Perth

{Baby Ella} is almost 1

Last Friday we had the pleasure of a visit from Jamie and Matt, and their daughter Ella. Ella will turn 1 this September, and Jamie wanted some family photos with all 3 smiling. We actually photographed Jamie and Matt's wedding back in 2009, which you may remember had a "little" bit of a firefighter theme. Of course we had to continue on the tradition! Read more

{Sara & Marc} Vintage Christmas Wedding

This post is a testament to the fact that social media works...really, really works. Earlier this year, I befriended Sara on Twitter; I had been following a conversation regarding her upcoming vintage styled wedding, and I suggested that she have a look at one my favorite sites, Ruffled Blog. We hit it off, and eventually we got together to talk about their wedding photography. Brian and I were thrilled! Sara has a cool retro vibe going on, and regularly blogs about her ventures into vintage fashion--she's cute, bubbly, and charismatic. Marc, at first, seemed to be the total opposite. He seemed quiet, but gave us a pleasant surprise when he very eloquently told us about many of the details of their day...he was undoubtedly head over heels in love with Sara and an absolute equal in the planning process. They told us of their dream winter wedding, designed around Christmas, which is a very special time for Sara, just as it was for her beloved mother. Read more

Cliff Mautner’s Dynamic Location Lighting Seminar

Among the many sessions we attended at the DWF Convention this month, one of our favorites was the Dynamic Location Lighting seminar taught by Cliff Mautner. For those of you unfamiliar with his work, Cliff has been a professional photographer for over 25 years, has photographed over 750 weddings, and is known as being able to create amazing images regardless of the lighting conditions. He has been named one of the world's top photographers, and prides himself on being able to produce photographs that are technically strong and has no need to edit them afterward to produce a beautiful product. We had the pleasure of learning from him, up close and personally...if you notice, we're so excited about being small town Ottawa wedding photographers on stage with a big city photographer of his caliber, I'm staring at Cliff with a big goofy grin on my face! {Jamie & Matt} Ottawa Wedding Photographer at The Carleton Heritage Inn

Well, what a party! We had the honour of being Jamie & Matt's official wedding photographers this past weekend in Carleton Place. Jamie has been Ivanette's esthetician since we moved to Almonte and has become a great friend since. Matt and Jamie have been together for seven years, so when he proposed to Jamie last October she called us to make sure we were available for her wedding. Matt is a volunteer fireman with Carleton Place, and well, us firefighters can sure throw a party! I'm sure the good folks over at the Carleton Heritage Inn are going to need a break after two firefighter weddings in a row! Read more
